i've always loved those photo sessions where a one year old tears into a cake. i think they are so fun. so i asked a friend if i could try it out on her beautiful baby girl who had just turned one. i wanted to get a "studio" look, so i searched all over the internet hoping to find out the best way to do that. one of the options i came across was to use a sheet. so i got everything set up - time, place, awesome cake (made by a good friend, emily) and a pink sheet with all the wrinkles ironed out (i thought a pink background would be cuter than white) and off i went. well... it didn't work out as great as i'd hoped. the pink sheet didn't work, so mom and dad offered up one of their white sheets; it was a little too late by the time i got there, so the lighting was off; and i can't figure out how to fix the darn pictures in photoshop. the pictures of lily are super cute, but i can't get the wrinkles smoothed out in the background. (if anyone out there knows how to do that, please let me know!) anyway, after getting over the discouragement of it all, i decided to try it again.
i asked emily (who made the cakes) if she'd let me try it out on her handsome baby boy who had just turned one. lucky for me, she agreed! i did a little more research this time around and found that seamless paper would be a better option. so, to make an even longer story short, it worked! and i couldn't be happier!
a big thanks to the eks for all the trouble and a huge thanks to emily for the gorgeous cakes, endless patience and the second chance :)
now, without further ado, here are the pictures...

p.s. if you, or anyone you know, has a baby turning one soon i'd love some more practice. :)

they really look awesome Mikelle! Love it!
I like the texture with Lily. I don't think it looks bad but I am also very impressed with Lincoln's background. I want you to explain this trick to me, it looks awesome!
Cute messiness!!!
So cute! Great job Mikelle! Did you get your paper at Tall Mouse? I have considered doing the same thing. It's a bummer you can only use it once, but I think it's worth it.
You need to put Jeremy in a diaper and let him go after a cake, I would pay big money for that print.
Hello Mikelle! As one of Lincoln's proud grandpas, I'm a little biased here, but the entire sequence is priceless! We couldn't get him to get into it nearly that much at his real birthday party. I think photos #4 & 5 could win prizes, seriously! Great job!
